Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Vidyasagar Setu in Kolkata will remain closed to all vehicles on August 24 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. The closure has been announced for urgent maintenance and repair work, which will be carried out over a fixed 16-hour period. The bridge, connecting Kolkata with Howrah over the Hooghly river, is one of the city’s most vital traffic links.
The Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) will carry out lifting and installation of steel portal beams, replacement of auxiliary cables, and repair of the layers supporting the structure. These works are scheduled to ensure structural upkeep and functionality of the bridge. During this time, no vehicle will be permitted to access the bridge in either direction.
Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma (IPS) issued a notification stating that alternative routes have been arranged to manage traffic flow while the bridge remains shut. The notification also mentioned that, depending on road conditions, additional traffic controls may be imposed on other important routes in Kolkata to ensure smooth movement.
